The Lagos State Government has taken decisive action against persistent environmental violations, shutting down 13 markets across the Mile 12 and Ketu areas. The closures, implemented on Thursday night, are a direct response to the markets’ repeated failure to comply with the state’s waste management regulations.
Identified markets include the Erukan Market in Mile 12 and the Oja Oba Market in Ketu. State authorities reported consistent breaches of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, citing the indiscriminate dumping of waste on public roads and highways.
The government emphasized that this measure is essential to safeguard public health and restore order within these heavily trafficked commercial zones. Market operators are now being urged to prioritize responsible waste disposal practices to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
