Ogun State, aptly designated as the Gateway to the rest of the country and neighboring Republic of Benin because of her strategic location, attained 49th year of statehood, having been created in 1976.
A sophisticated state, no doubt, it has had the rare privilege of siring great sons and daughters who have helped shape and continue to shape the nation's socio-economic and political trajectories for good. It has equally had the exceptional grace of having the likes of Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governors at different times and political dispensations. The incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun is no less an illustrious son of the state.
As the state looks forward to 2027, even though it is two years away, discussions are already buzzing about who will succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun when his tenure gloriously ends in May 2027. Among the names being considered, one stands out sharply: Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI. Although he has not openly expressed his governorship ambition for 2027, many believe he is the best candidate to carry forward Governor Dapo Abiodun's legacy.
Many cite his quality representation through various empowerment initiatives, including skills acquisition, vocational training, entrepreneurship development programs, and the provision of scholarships and bursaries. Since moving to Ogun West in 2023, over 40,000 beneficiaries have been reached through his empowerment programs, which include the distribution of sewing machines, vehicles, catering equipment, and cash grants.
Senator Adeola's infrastructural contributions are equally noteworthy. He has facilitated over 100 projects, including roads, school buildings, and health care centers, addressing infrastructural deficits in Ogun West. Notably, he constructed a road in Ibara-Orile, a community outside his district, to meet a pressing need.
His commitment to education and health care is evident through the addition of classrooms in various schools and the establishment of primary health care centers equipped with ambulances. Furthermore, he has supported local trade by constructing modern shops and facilitated security improvements by building police stations and donating operational vehicles to law enforcement agencies.
Senator Adeola has also contributed significantly to community development, with projects like the Asade Agunloye Pavilion in Ilaro, which accommodates large events. His efforts have included providing electric transformers and solar street lights to enhance living conditions in underserved areas.
Dr. Arabambi Abayomi (FBAU), the Most Non-Controversial Political Personality 2025 and Chairman of TheRealityAgenda@Ogun 2027, stated, "Senator Yayi's soaring popularity as an effective representative can be attributed to his unprecedented empowerment programs that have impacted thousands. His infrastructural interventions have endeared him to the people of Ogun State and beyond, making a strong case for his candidacy in 2027."
As the political landscape evolves, the call for Senator Yayi to step into a larger role in Ogun State governance grows louder, driven by his track record of delivering measurable results and fostering community development.
