”Your name will remain indelible in the sands of time”— Oyo Hajj chairman, Ateere hails Gov. Makinde over Ibadan Airport Upgrade



The Chairman of the Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Sheik Hashim Olamide Ateere, has commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for laying the foundation for the upgrade of Alakia Airport, Ibadan otherwise called Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan to international standard.

The chairman praised the State Government for its efforts to allocate financial and human resources to the airport upgrade following President Bola Tinubu's approval.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday after Governor Seyi Makinde performed the official groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the airport to international standard, the Islamic scholar described the project as one that is expected to propel economic growth, progress, and prosperity for the trailblazing State.

Noting that the feat was an exclusive achievement of the Makinde Administration, Sheikh Ateere emphasised that the upgrade will turn Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan into a hub for commerce and connectivity, creating jobs and drawing businesses and investors to our State. 

He said the Governor has set another unprecedented record of achievement in his developmental strides in the State, adding that the initiative will also ensure direct international flights, attract more airlines, passengers and cargos and ultimately increase revenue and boost local economies, as well as generate employment opportunities for the citizens,

He said: “With a deep sense of gratitude, I humbly write to appreciate and congratulate Your
Excellency on the laying of foundation for the upgrade of Alakia Airport, Ibadan otherwise called Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan to international standard.

“Your administration is indeed tailored to be subservient to the yearnings and wellbeing of the people of the State and this can be adjudged through this laudable achievement.

"This is one of the greatest accomplishments since it will guarantee direct international flights, draw in more airlines, travellers, and cargo, and ultimately raise income, strengthen local economies, and create jobs for the populace. 

“When the airport is finished and upgraded, I believe it will serve as a hub for regional development and ease the burden on Lagos Airport, among other advantages. 

“This upgrade will not only ensure that hajj pilgrims have access to reliable transportation but make the operation seamless. 

“With this upgrade, Our governor has once again cemented his reputation as a development-friendly, goal-oriented leader with long-term plans for the State."
