The Ogun State government today marked World Environment Day with a passionate appeal to stakeholders, urging them to join forces in achieving a smart city agenda through climate change resilience and urban afforestation.
Honourable Commissioner for Forestry, Engr Oludotun Taiwo, FNSE, made this known at the event held at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, to commemorate this year's World Environment Day celebration.
The theme, "Achieving a Smart City Agenda through Climate Change Resilience and Urban Afforestation", aimed to raise awareness and promote action on environmental issues in Ogun State.
Engr. Oludotun emphasized the need for sustainable urban planning, management, and governance to drive economic and social development.
The forest Commissioner equally highlighted strategies for achieving a smart city agenda, including urban planning, afforestation, climate change resilience, smart technologies, community engagement, policy and governance, funding and partnerships, and research and development.
The Commissioner also commended the state Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun's efforts in pursuing an inclusive and habitable Ogun State and appreciated partnerships with various organizations, policymakers, experts, and citizens.
He therefore urged all stakeholders to collaborate and inspire each other to create a more sustainable and inclusive habitat for all, pledging to plant more trees and protect the planet for future generations.
