Reps adopts Ibrahim Isiaka's motion,tasks FG on completion of Lagos-Sango—Abeokuta Road

The House also mandated its Committee on Works to investigate the cause of abandonment of work on the road. The committee is expected to report report back to the House within four weeks for further legislative actions.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Ibrahim Isiaka on “need for the reconstruction of Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway.”

Isiaka, in his lead debate, stated that as a result of the deplorable state of the road, commuters spend as much as five to seven hours in gridlock on the road, on daily basis. He noted that there is need to fix the road, as it is the only road connects Ikeja, the Lagos State Capital, to Ogun State.

According to him, the reconstruction of
the road was awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria and Reynolds
Construction Company Limited ( RCC) in 2018. Isiaka added that no tangible work has been done on the project in the last six years.

He expressed concern that “with the deep potholes and gully erosion ravaging the road caused by torrential
rainfalls, it has not only become a death trap for commuters and residents of adjoining communities
but also a breeding ground for robbery and other criminal activities.

“The road has not witnessed any rehabilitation as commuters and heavy-duty vehicular find it difficult from Abeokuta to Lagos to ply the road resulting in the loss goods daily basis.
