Coronation Anniversary: Oba Orile-Ilawo, Alexander Olusegun Macgregor Issues Powerful Statement About His Emergence

The Secretary to the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun state, Zacheous Makinde has disclosed that both the local government and state government did not involved in the selection and the emergence of Oba (Prof.) Alexander Olusegun Macgregor as the Olu of Orile-Ilawo.

Makinde stated this on Thursday at a news conference as part of activities for the Coronation Ceremony of the Monarch held at Oba Macgregor place, Ilawo, Abeokuta.

He stressed that MacGregor’s name was approved by the government after free and fair election between the candidates that were sent by the traditional chiefs.

The council secretary added that the government expressed happiness over his emergence as the first Olu of Orile-Ilawo kingdom due to his antecedent.

” From the on set, during the selection of the new Olu of Orile-Ilawo , we as government did not involve in the selection of who the people wanted.

” The traditional chiefs in Orile-Ilawo sent the candidates, we screened and conducted a transparent election. Due process was followed and came out with his emergence.

” His philanthropic in the last few years is one of the things we are proud of and we want him to continue.

” Government is very happy as he emerged and we want people like him to continue to enrich our children not only in Ilawo township but also in villages too,” he said.

While commending the monarch for his impacts on the people of Ilawo, the representative of Olu of Orile-Ilawo, Babatunde Adebayo said the monarch had done a lot since he was presented a Staff of Office on 25th of April, 2023 by the state government.

He highlighted some of the developmental projects he had initiated in Ilawo since his emergence.

” He started Macgregor Foundation that caters for children from primary school to where they want to get to academically. He paid for the school fees, transport of over 500 people.

The chairman Coronation Planning Committee, Hon. Ishaq Bada revealed that, the ceremony would run for four days with different activities.

“Day 1 Thursday 31st of August, 2023 shall feature the glorious exit from Ipebi and accompany by the street carnival to mark the annual Ilawo Day at Oba Macgregor Road and Free Medical Outreach.

”Day 2 Friday 1st of September, 2023, Coronation shall feature hosting of some of indigenous clubs and Homage by the Monarch and Juma’at Service at Ansarul-Deen Central Mosque, Orile-Ilawo.

“Day 3 Saturday 2nd of September is the Coronation of Oba Macgregor 1 as the new Olu of Orile-Ilawo with the presentation of Staff of Office and instrument of office to the new monarch”.

“Day 4 Sunday 3rd of September shall feature a Church Thanksgiving service holds at St. Peters African Church, Ilawo Abeokuta at 10:00am,” he said
