Agroup known as Concerned Nigerian Citizens on Tuesday organised a prayer protest at different parts of Lagos State over the challenges facing Nigerians.
The protesters displayed placards with various messages calling for positive change as they protested Obalende Under-bridge on Lagos Island and some other places in the state.
Seyi Akinde, one of the members of the group told SaharaReporters that the protest is about the daily challenges that average Nigerians face in the state.
Akinde described the organisation as a national movement, adding that its members would be seen in clusters of 20s across Lagos State, and even beyond henceforth.
"God has given man the authority – that's the government – to change the fortunes of the life of people. But the same thing has continued to happen in Nigeria over time. People go to elections, results are manipulated, and people are left broken.
"So women are taking an initiative to cry out to God, to come out carrying their placards that have messages. They are wearing their black attire. They are protesting and they will be praying. You see them singing the song of freedom – 'we shall overcome, we shall overcome'.
"They are speaking about the daily challenges that an average Nigerian faces in this state. It's a national movement where you are going to be seeing women in different clusters of 20s, across the state, across Nigeria.
"Coming out with a movement and the objective is to wake up the consciousness of Nigerians and to get across to the leader so that they can begin to see the challenges that the people face and with the hope that one day, the consciousness of every Nigerian will open.
"This is a movement led by women; they are coming out with their children; they are carrying their placards. There are messages that are written in it. They are praying, they are speaking. We hope that will be the beginning of something.
"It has been done in about seven local government areas across Lagos. On the 7th, there's going to be the mother of all prayers. People are going to come out across the entire Lagos.”
"We do it local government by local government and it happens every Tuesday and Saturday. Last Tuesday, we had four local governments in Ikeja, Alimosho, Kosofe and Eti Osa. On Saturday, we had Oshodi, Isolo. So it's a continuous movement. Today, there were about four local government areas coming out too.
"The movement has nothing to do with just Christians, it's for everybody. They come out for 30 minutes, they get it done and they go back. So it is something that will be sustained," Akinde added.
