A 40-year-old man, Damilola Isheniyi, was arraigned on Friday at an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing his employer’s goods and money to the tune of N1.1 million.The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is accused of stealing and unlawful conversion. However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to Inspector Olaide Rawlings, the prosecutor, the defendant allegedly committed the crime during the period spanning from March to May at Vanguard Pharmacy, located in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, where the defendant held the position of manager. Rawlings asserted that the defendant unlawfully obtained goods valued at N751,035 from the pharmacy but failed to remit the corresponding funds to the company's account.
Furthermore, the prosecutor added that the defendant allegedly misappropriated N303,750 that rightfully belonged to the company. This was purportedly achieved by the defendant intentionally reducing the amount allocated to him for the purpose of purchasing diesel for the pharmacy.
The accused individual allegedly committed offenses that contravened Sections 390(6) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
In response, Magistrate Mrs. M.O. Osinbajo granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties. The case was adjourned and scheduled for a hearing on June 7.
