Ogun: NUJ dissloves caretaker committee, picks December 21 as election date

Following the dissolution of the caretaker committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council by the National Executive Council meeting held recently in Edo State, the delegates from the national leadership of the Union led by the Vice President of B-Zone, Comrade Ronke Afebioye Samo have inaugurated an interim leadership from the members of the State Executive Council (SEC).

The Vice President, B-Zone after the inauguration which saw the Chairman of National Orientation Agency Chapel, Comrade Toyin Oluwa as the Chairman and the Secretary of State Information Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan as the Secretary during a meeting on Friday with the council members, veterans and stakeholders at the Iwe-Irohin Hall, Secretariat of Ogun Council, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Comrade Samo disclosed that the duo having been unanimously selected by all Chapel Chairmen and Secretaries in line with the constitution of the Union will see to the affairs of the Council pending the time the election would be conducted and would work with the electoral committee from the National Executive Council to usher in democratically elected officers for the Council.

The Vice President, B-Zone pleaded with all warring factions to sheath their swords and allow peace and unity for the council to regain its pride of place in the comity of Councils as the cradle of journalism warning that if the desired peace is not achieved with the new development, the Council would be put under lock and key as directed by the National Executive Council.

In his address, the Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists who doubles as the Chairman, Electoral Committee, Comrade Ademola Babalola reeled out the election time table saying by December 21, 2022, the new leadership would emerge and be sworn in.

Comrade Babalola assured that the electoral committee members which has the Secretary of Ekiti Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi as the Secretary and the Chairman of Lagos Council, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi as member, are all out to conduct a free, fair and credible election to end the prolonged crisis that has bedeviled the council calling on all electorates and aspirants not to engage in do or die election.
