Group Writes Open Letter To Gov Abiodun Over Abandoned Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia

.....Gives Gov Abiodun 7-Days Ultimatum to address the issue 

Group under the aegis of Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF) has written an open letter to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun Mfr over the abandoned Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

General Secretary, Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF), the group gave Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to address the issue and make recommendations openly to the general public on the way forward on the abandoned project, in Ipokia, Ogun state.

His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun

Executive Governor,

Ogun State.

Dear sir,

AN OPEN LETTER FROM IPOKIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT YOUTH FORUM (IPYF) TO THE GOVERNOR ON THE STATUS OF THE ABANDONED OGUN STATE POLYTECHNIC, IPOKIA.

It’s with a heart filled with sorrow and agony that we write your Excellency, the number one citizen of our dear state; as our hopes are dying-off over Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia which must be resuscitated because it has come to stay. 

It should be recalled that while you came into office, all hands were on deck to manage the affairs and crisis of the proposed Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (MAUTECH); and Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia (OGUNPOLY) whereby a 7-man committee was constituted and headed by Prof. Segun Awonusi to look at the possible operational modalities for MAUTECH, Abeokuta and OGUNPOLY, Ipokia as the committee was saddled with responsibilities to ascertain the current operational status of the two institutions; Identify issues and challenges related to the establishment and operations of the two institutions, determination of viability and sustainability of the two institutions on a long term, Identifying other issues bordering the two institutions and make necessary recommendations to the government on the subject matter. It was on every media bulletin that the committee had concluded and submitted their reports to the appropriate quarters.

Recall that in your letter dated July 18th 2019, to the Ogun State assembly, “I forward herewith a bill for a law to amend the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology Law, 2017 for the kind consideration and passage of the House of Assembly.” HB No 01/OG/2019: a bill for a law to amend the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Law 2017” as since then be assented to by your excellency. This returned the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to status quo ante but to date, nothing had been done for Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

Having completed its assignment, the 7 man committee submitted their report, on the 5th of September 2019, it’s strange and iniquitous that the said submitted reports over Two (2) years now has not been made public nor its recommendations implemented, but the Governor is silent on this after years of taking the mantle of leadership of our dear state. 

Strategically, we were still keeping our hopes afloat, when you made an on-the-spot assessment on the proposed site for Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia before the Local Government election but right now our hopes are crumbling right at our faces as the buildings erected by the last administration for Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia is now dilapidated and had turned a haven for miscreants and uncultured elements to perpetrate evils.

As youths of this great Local Government, we would not be an on-looker while the proposed site wear off. For these reasons, the following positions had been resolved:

Firstly, we give the State Government 7 days ultimatum to make public and tell us the recommendations made by the committee about the functionalities of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

Secondly, we want the Governor to tell us his stands on the creation of OGUNPOLY, Ipokia and hindrances to the assertion of the submitted recommendations.

Consequentially, failure to meet up with our demands on the proposed Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia within 7 days; we implore his excellency to be ready to receive the teeming youths, sons and daughters of Ipokia Local Government with open arms, as we would move and match our secretariat and all other diaspora affiliates to your office and home, which means an unaverted "Reminder Protest" is knocking on your door. 

Julie Bang once said, “You can’t blame someone for walking away if you didn’t do anything to make them stay”. Instead of this, we await the position of his excellency on this with keen interest.
