Dozens of HIV Patients Killed, Scores Injured In Nothern Nigeria.

 .....HIV Patients are being targeted for Murder across the three geopolitical zones of the Northern Nigeria.

Not less than eight (8) carriers of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) were reportedly hacked to death by residents of Fardan Furos, Aduga residents, Dan Ayo residents, North East region, Okiti community,  Tikiri community,  North West region, Bayero community,   Ataila community,  Ujiri community  and Lumba community,  North Central, residents in the communities of the Nothern part of Nigeria are becoming ghastly hostile and increasingly angry .

The outlook for people living with HIV has medically and significantly improved over the last two decades , Many people who are HIV-positive are living longer and healthier when regularly taking antiretroviral treatment.

Kaiser Permanente researchers found that the life expectancy for people living with HIV and receiving treatment had increased significantly from 1996. Since that year, new antiretroviral drugs have been developed and added to the existing antiretroviral therapy. This has resulted in a highly effective HIV treatment regimen.

In 1996, the total life expectancy for a 20-year-old person with HIV was 39 years. In 2011, the total life expectancy bumped up to about 70 years.

The survival rate for HIV-positive people has also dramatically improved since the first days of the HIV epidemic. For example, researchersTrusted Source who examined the mortality of participants in a study of Swiss people with HIV found that 78 percent of deaths between 1988 and 1995 were due to AIDS-related causes. Between 2005 and 2009, the figure dropped to 15 percent.

Antiretroviral medications can help to reduce the damage caused by HIV infection and prevent it from developing into full blown AIDS.

According to our correspondent, the Nothern residents were angry and afraid of possibilities of transferring the virus to other resident and took law into their hands with the mind set of wiping off the virus from the community by killing the carriers.

Our reporters gathered their is still ineffective public sensitization by the national public health regarding people living with HIV disease. The government needs to invest more on public orientation and sensitization.
