AMORAN Chairman, Nurudeen Alowonle Visits Correctional, Orphanage Home, Donates Food Items, Relief Materials

  As part of the activities highlighted to mark his one year in office, the Chairman, Articulate Motorcyce Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle visited the Nigerian Correctional Service, Old Abeokuta Custodial Center, Ibara  to donate food items and cash gifts to the inmates. 

  Speaking during the visit, the Publicity Secretary of the Union, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya said the gesture was solely to put a smile on the inmates' faces and grant them a sense of belonging. Sokoya stated that the Union was ready to collaborate with other well meaning individuals, groups or associations to identify with the inmates. 

  "In line with our vision,  we have come here to let the inmates know that we are solely concerned about their welfarism. Of a truth, this is to commemorate the celebration of our one year in office but at the same time, it is one of our humanitarian initiatives as a Union. Our Chairman is a man with a large heart who loves doing good. He has promised to do even more", Sokoya said. 

  In his remark, the assistant superintendent of correctons 1 (ASC 1), A A Awesu thanked the leadership of AMORAN and declared that it was the first time ever, a motorcycle union gave so much recognition to the inmates. He lauded the Chairman and other executive members of the Union for coming up with such initiative and noted that the gesture will linger on for a long time in the minds of everyone at the correctional home.

The Chairman's entourage proceeded to Stella Obasanjo Children's home where various food items and cash gifts were donated by the union. Members who accompanied the Chairman on the visit included; SSA on special duties to Ogun State Governor, Hon. Adewale Aka, Hon. Kazeem Lawal (Vice Chairman, AMORAN), Otunba Taofeek Sokoya (Publicity Secretary, AMORAN), Mr. Monsuru Balogun (Organising Secretary, AMORAN), Comrade Bankole Mohammed (Asst. Organising Secretary, AMORAN), Comrade Habeeb Okedara (Senatorial Chairman, Ogun Central AMORAN), Mrs. Raliat Buraimoh (Provost Marshall III) and Comrade Jamiu Jinadu (Ex-officio I).

  Speaking further, Comrade Awesu appealed to the State government not to neglect the inmates. He said the correctional home is trying everything humanly possible to impact knowledge into them (the inmates) while they in their custody. 

 "First of all, I would like to appreciate the leadership of AMORAN for this kind and rare gesture. This is the very first time a motorcycle union will pay us a visit with so much donations for the inmates. We are very glad and hope this will spur other Unions to do same"

  This is not the end of life for them (the inmates) and that is why we have to take proper care of them such that when they regain freedom, they'll choose to be of good conduct and be useful to the society. Many of them had their certificates while with us here.  We have als tried to give vocational skills to some of them and they are making good use of it. 

  If the goverment abandons them, the consequence of this is that when they regain freedom, they'll be back to the streets, posing huge threat to the peace of the people and our dear State but if we empower them from here, not many of them will choose their previous way of life as they already have something to bank on for a living", Awesu said. 

  He further explained that over twenty of the inmates are willing to write the forthcoming NECO exam but the management is only able to register twenty of them at the moment. Alowonle offered to pay for the registration of the other twenty five inmates to ensure they all sit for the exams as wished.
