SUBEB Boss Eulogises Governor Abiodun's Governance

The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi has eulogised the administration of Governor Abiodun, as it was overwhelming within the short period that the Government has made provision for covid-19 basic materials to all public primary schools, in order to guide against the spread of the deadly virus in schools.

The SUBEB Boss expressed this during the resumption assessment meeting held at the Board’s Conference Room with the Acting Education Secretaries and Zonal Chairmen of Association of Primary Schools Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) across the 20 Local Government Education Authorities.

Dr. Majekodunmi disclosed that in the bid to provide safe school environment and improving infrastructural facilities as well as teaching and learning condition in all public schools, the State Government has put a lot of machineries in place, yet there are still more needed to be done.

Having listened to the series of reports of first week of resumption for the second term 2020/2021 academic session by the Acting Education Secretaries across the 20 LGEAs, he appreciated their act of diligence and duty. He implored the LGEAs’ Education Managers to build a cordial relationship with other education stakeholders including security outfits in their zone, in order to get their support as it is clearly understood that Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of education because its capital intensive.

Dr. Majekodunmi commended the Headteacher of Owu African Central School who also double as the Chairman, Abeokuta North AOPSHON, Mr. Babatunde Olugbolahan for harnessing the support of Old Student Association and other Non-Governmental Organisations towards the improvement of the school environment, he urged other Headteachers to emulate his act of duty.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Board Secretary, Ogun SUBEB, Mr. Wasiu Olalekan Kuye, appreciated the good job the AOSPHON is doing in their various zones and noted that the purpose of the meeting was to assess the activities of the first week of school resumption, get feedbacks and developments from each Local Government Education Authority.

The Scribe also advised the Acting Education Secretaries and headteachers to let the school community know that the school belongs to them and relate well with the Divisional Police Office and Department of State Security in their zones, so that adequate security would be provided in all the schools.

In his response at the meeting, Mr. Sanusi Dauda Abolade, Chairman AOPSHON Abeokuta South, who spoke on behalf of other Chairmen, apologize for the absence of state Chairman due to other State official duty, he appreciated the State Government and Ogun SUBEB for working tirelessly towards ensuring a safe school for the Learners and Teachers. He implored the Executive Chairman to look into some of the highlighted challenges such as resuscitation of rural allowance for the teacher in the rural areas, resumption of the school food vendors to take care of primary four to six pupils who were excluded from the Home Grown Feeding Programme among other issues.

In her vote of thanks, Director, Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose informed the gathering that, total compliance to covid-19 protocols should continue to be maintained in all the schools and that State Government efforts in flatten the curve of the deadly virus should be supported by all and sundry. She then thanked the Executive Chairman for giving approval to hold the meeting and appreciated everyone for being at the meeting, which has availed the Board with first-hand information regarding happenings in the 20 LGEAs.
