The determination of the present administration in Ogun State to restore the glory of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital ( OOUTH), Sagamu will produce a tertiary health institution that generations after now would be proud of, Dr. Tomi Coker, the State Commissioner for Health has said.
This was made known during a visit of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the OOUTH led by its Chairman, Dr. Adekunle Hassan to the Commissioner's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Coker said that the Council would provide the needed strength to further drive OOUTH and make it the envy of the world.
She said that the government will not relent in ensuring that health institutions at all levels in the state are standardized to deliver quality healthcare, pointing out that reduction of maternal and infant mortality as well as prolonged lifespan remain the government's focus.
The Commissioner said that the state government would in the coming year invest more resources in the health sector, pointing out that innovative financing, upgrade of facilities and staff welfare will not be taken for granted by the Prince Abiodun led government.
She disclosed that the newly launched Annual Operational Plan of the health sector for 2021 would be implemented to the letter.
Describing the Governing Council Chairman and members as a plethora of the high and mighty in the health sector, Coker urged them to do their utmost best that posterity will celebrate in reviving the foreman health institution.
"We need to work on what we have as we strive to upgrade our infrastructure, equipment level and workforce which make up a complete health system.
"The report on OOUTH is a daunting task which is achievable. I want to plead with you all to study it and see how you can spread the plan to achieve it over a period of time.
"One of the major legacies we should work towards bequeathing to the next generation is a formidable OOUTH which we can be proud of,' she said.
Earlier, Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Hassan, assured the Commissioner that all hands would be on deck towards achieving a common goal of making the health system in the state the far better.
