The Oyo state government has of today held the passing out ceremony of the Amotekun corps in Oyo town.
You will recall that the Idea of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun officially launched on the 9th of January while the six state of if the southwest, namely Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo agreed to set up this outfit.
While speaking during the passing out ceremony, governor Seyi Makinde explained that Amotekun is indeed the a first of its kinds security agency because it is a regional security outfit initiated by one of Nigeria's six geopolitical zone.
The governor further explains the function of the body to include collaborating with and assisting the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in gathering information, involving in the investigation of crime, arrest and prosecution of person suspected of kidnapping, terrorism, destruction of livelihood, cultism, highway robbery among others.
Our actions have been based on the fact that if our state is insecure, we cannot attract investment, whether foreign or local, so far we have supported our federal security outfit who do their best to protect our people
The governor also encouraged the corps member to remain an excellent examples while discharging their duties.
He added that members of the corps shall be drafted to all the 351 wards in the State.
