Ogun PCRC Kicks As Govt Neglects Them During Stakeholders Meeting

The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Ogun State Chapter has decried abandonment by the government of Ogun State led by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun in spite its role in combating crimes through community services.

According to the press statement signed by Ven Dr Samson Kunle Popoola JP
Ogun State PCRC Chairman, "My attention has just been drawn to some comments and remarks that emanated from the just concluded State Government sponsored Peace Parley with critical stakeholders held at the Arcade ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta and having in attendance DIG (SOUTHWEST) Leye Oyebade and other VIPs in attendance."

"Ordinarily, no formal invitation was extended to the State Police Community Relations Committee PCRC by the state government and therefore not represented at the parley despite our very visible roles during the Covid19 pandemic in the state in terms of daily and night patrol and logistics and PPE support as well as recent #ENDSARS protests in the state which saw the PCRC engaging all stakeholders to maintain peace and order even at the risk of our lives." he said.
"It should be on record that the PCRC leadership in Ogun State under my watch did everything humanly possible to stem the tide of the protests before, during and even as at the present time, we are still in the fore front of community engagement at all our divisions, area Command and the State level building confidence and restoring hope in the Nigeria Police and the psyche of our officers and men. This can be attested to by the CP, SA on security, S.A. on Youth Affairs as well as SA student affairs and Youth to the State Governor and Student leaders across the state."

"We want to appreciate the state government for the office space we are now using at the old Secretariat and occasional supports in recent past.
To assume that the PCRC at least in Ogun State has been hijacked by moneybags is most uncharitable and a total lack of knowledge of what the Pcrc stands for and what it was set out to achieve."

"Let me state here for clarity that the PCRC is not funded by the government or the police and all we have achieved is by self sacrifice and commitments of members and our Patrons and supporters who believed in us and rightly so that SECURITY IS EVERYONE's Business." he added.

Also, he said  PCRC is running two weekly radio programmes on Family FM and Funaab radio as a platform for members of the public to air their views and channel their complaints to the Police authorities as well as constant appearances on radio and television programs in the state in our community advocacy and enlightenment initiatives.

"I make bold to say that activities of the State PCRC in recent times have saved the state a lot of issues that would have degenerated into chaos and protests.
Despite little or no external support, the Ogun State PCRC was recently adjudged the best PCRC state Command in Ogun State and of course the Zone2 and the Southwest PCRC has been doing excellently well in galvanising support for the Police in terms of infrastructures and logistics.
In recent time no less than 12 new divisions and other police outposts have been added to our formations all through the efforts of the PCRC in conjunction with our traditional rulers and the Community development associations and CDCs."

He said PCRC in Ogun will continue to discharge its constitutional duties of supporting the police and continue to serve as the bridge between the Police and the community.

"Events of recent times have brought to the fore the enermous responsibilities been shouldered single handedly by the Pcrc in the past 36 years and it's time for both the state government and the local government to include Pcrc in it's security template and assist the Pcrc with logistical and financial support if indeed we are serious about our community policing policy.

Ogun State has the largest membership per state in the whole federation and in the fore front of the establishment of Micro Pcrc units in all the nooks and crannies of the state most of which are domiciled with our traditional and community leaders.
I want to end by calling on our members not to be deterred or dampen by those who believes that PCRC should be their baby to use for their nefarious activities or as a tool of oppression of the masses. That will not happen under my leadership in the state.

I salute your courage, zeal and personal sacrifices to keep our state safe and secured even during the heat of the crisis. Keep the flag of peace flying.

To our Patrons and other critical stakeholders especially our traditional rulers and fathers we appreciate your seed of patriotism and love for fatherland.
Together we will continue to win more.

PCRC!!!! Service to the nation."
