Today, 28th September 2020, it’s a great honour for me to participate in this year’s World Rabies Day as a Global event at Ogun State Veterinary Hospital Complex, Ita Eko, Abeokuta as a representative of His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun (MFR).
For clarity and records, permit me to mention some of the actions taken by Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture through the Department of Veterinary Services to curtail the spread of Rabies;
• Stakeholders’ Meeting
• Awareness
• Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination
• Creation of Veterinary Wild life and Aquatic Unit
• Establishment of Modern Clinics
This year, the World Rabies Day is being celebrated like never before in Ogun State in a bid to increase the awareness of canines’ rabies. The one Health Approach has also been embraced with the Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture collaborating with Ogun State Ministry of Health, Federal University of Abeokuta, Non-government organizations, Philanthropic clubs, Religious Organizations that are willing to ensure that rabies is eliminated on or before year 2030.

Ogun State Government will promote annual free anti rabies vaccination and also ensure availability and affordability of the vaccine.

Ogun State Government through the Department of Veterinary Services is working on modalities to register all dogs with the aim of ensuring that at least 100% of dogs in Ogun State are vaccinated annually against rabies.
