Osoba Becomes NIJ Governing Council Chairman

Former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, has been named as the new Chairman, Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos State. This is as a result of the demise of its late Chairman, Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua.

Members of the Council in session on Tuesday, unanimously adopted the former Governor at its meeting, after the Publisher of Vanguard Newspaper, Sam Anuja introduced him as the new Chairman of the Council.

According to the minutes of the meeting signed by the Acting Registrar, Mrs Patricia Kalesanwo, stated that in attendance was the President of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN),  Mr Nduka Obaigbena.

Meanwhile, the former governor is again occupying this Osoba is occupying after 30 years he had served as the council chairman.

According to the council, its decision to appoint the former governor for the position again is to “explore his wealth of knowledge,  administrative skill, professional depth and goodwill to reposition the institute in this era of technology driven communication industry.”

However, the former President of NPAN, Ray Ekpu, was also appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Governing Council, while the Chairman of the NIJ Alumni Association was also inducted into the council with no voting rights, adding that it is to enable the old students to appropriately contribute to the repositioning of their alma mater.

Also, the council has directed the establishment of a committee to place advert towards finding a suitable candidate for the post of Provost of the Institute, just as the tenure of the Provost, Mr Gbemiga Ogunleye expires at end of this month.
