Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has ordered the lockdown of Ingawa Local Government Area of the state with effect from 7:00 am on Sunday, May 10, 2020.
The order comes days after the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) tested and confirmed some persons positive for COVID-19 in the area.
As of Friday, the NCDC confirmed an additional 31 cases in the state, bringing its total number of infections to 137, and making it the state with the 6th highest record in the country.
The lockdown order is also in line with the decision already taken by the state government and other stakeholders to shutdown any Local Government Area where COVID-19 cases are established.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, people of Ingawa Local Government have, therefore, been warned to stay at home as security agents would be deployed to ensure total compliance in order to curtail the spread of virus in the state.
It also noted that the decision was taken in the best interest of the people of Ingawa Local Government, Katsina State, Nigeria and humanity at large.
Meanwhile, Inuwa said the governor has directed the COVID 19 committee to identify and earmark some pharmaceuticals, grains and essential commodity stores in the local government that would be allowed to offer skeletal services to the needy.
Of the 34 Local Government Areas of the state, 12 LGAs, Daura, Dutsinma, Katsina, Mani, Safana, Kankia, Matazu, Musawa, Jibia, Batagarawa, Malumfashi and Ingawa are currently under lockdown.
