After almost 17 years of operations in Iraq, President Trump, who knows an opportunity when he sees one, decided to take the Iraqis up on their offer to bring our troops home from their fetid sandbox.

In a letter dated today U.S. Commanding General in Iraq William Seely III informed the Iraqi Forces Commander LTG Abdul Amir that U.S. Forces will be leaving Iraq in response to the recent resolution of the Iraqi parliament.

After almost 17 years of operations there President Trump, who knows an opportunity when he sees one, decided to take the Iraqis up on their offer to bring our troops home from their fetid sandbox. LZ called for this move less than 24 hours ago.

He thus extricates the U.S. from an unwinnable quagmire, flatfoots his Dem opposition by going them one further, and brings peace to the U.S. in an election year.

It will be interesting to hear the Dem response, as they will come up with absurd ways to criticize him on this, though many of them have been calling for this for years.

It will be a melancholy moment for many thousands of U.S. troops who served there, as their brave and noble actions and sacrifices will be seen in the present context. That does not lessen their heroism one iota.

But it makes clear that this mission, as the president and this publication has recently noted, was a mistake from the very beginning.
