The immediate past Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State Council, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, has endorsed the appointment of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo as chairman of the state caretaker committee of the union.

The endorsement may have thus ended the leadership crisis which had rocked the union in the past few weeks leading to the appointment of Akinsanya as caretaker chairman of the Lagos NURTW.

Akinsanya and 17 others were last Wednesday appointed caretaker committee members to run the affairs of the union in the state.

But members of a faction of the union suspected to be backed by Agbede, opposed to the appointment, had staged a protest at the state House of Assembly and vowed not to support him.

Agbede, however, surprised many of the union members on Monday when he showed up at the Oko-Oba Agege office of the union during the swearing-in of Akinsanya and members of the new caretaker committee.

The National Deputy Secretary-General, Kayode Agbeyangi, led other national and zonal officers of the union to the event.

Agbede urged all members of the union to support Akinsanya to ensure the success of the committee’s assignment.

“I want members of our union in Lagos State to let peace reign and join hand together with the committee chairman to move the union forward,” he said.

Agbeyangi commended Agbede for his display of maturity in ensuring the resolution of the leadership crisis.

Akinsanya urged the members to embrace peace, adding, “We have won the war but the most important thing now is to win the peace. We are one and we will always remain brothers irrespective of our differences during the struggle for this position.”
