Ugandan bank with the name Equity has sparked outrage amongst Ugandan citizen after it refused to give a sick man on oxygen his money until he had come into the bank himself. The sad incident had happened at Equity Bank Uganda church house branch.
According to trezzyhelm, the male patient was in a critical condition couldn’t access his money despite sending his relatives to the bank to withdraw his money and pay his medical bills at Norvic hospital.
He had to be carried in an ambulance to the bank such that the bank managers confirm that he’s really sick yet they had shown them photos of him bedridden.
A relative who had shared the whole incident on social media wrote;
”It wasn’t like that. We were at Novick hospital with my dad on oxygen, we were given transfer to Nakasero hospital. So dad needed his to clear Novick bills before we go to Nakasero. We went to equity bank they sent the first person to go Novick and confirm if he was real sick, he took pics after he went back.
Later we went to their main branch at church house to give dad money, they said it’s their procedure. Later they sent us their branch manager also take pics and confirm but still they refused to give him his money that he worked for mbu. My need my dad on his sick bed on oxygen to go to the bank and get his money.
What can he do? He had to go in ambulance and he was given the money after we went to Nakasero inside his condition worsened he is now in Nakasero icu. Banks Banks”
Was Equity Bank right to protect his money or just callous towards the sick old man?
