An intelligence-driven operation, to locate suspects following the heinous killing of two security guards, yielded results for the National Intervention Unit after two men were arrested at the KwaMashu Hostel, last week.

It is believed that the victims were also robbed. Aside from the successful arrests, three firearms and 38 rounds of ammunition were also seized by police officers.

At the commencement of the operation, police stormed into a home on Kholwa Road where they found a 32-year-old suspect.

A search was conducted and the suspect was found in possession of a rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition and a shotgun with six rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was immediately placed under arrest. At a neighbouring home, a second suspect, aged 23, was apprehended after he was found with a pistol, which had its serial numbers filed off, along with two rounds of ammunition.

Provincial police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane, confirmed that the suspects were detained at the KwaMashu police station where they were charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

“They will also be charged with the murder, attempted murder and robbery. They are expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court soon,” he concluded.
