Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor-elect of Lagos state, has said he will end the Apapa heavy traffic within his first 60 days in office.

The governor-elect made this promise during an interactive session he had with his classmate at the executive master administration class of University of Lagos held in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu was asked what he would do differently after assuming office and he commented on the gridlock caused by tankers, trailers, and heavy-duty vehicles in Apapa.

He responded: “The Apapa trailer issue; it’s a campaign issue; it’s very serious; I’m going to take it very seriously.” He said his government would do something about the issue in his first 60 days, saying his administration would do whatever it takes to solve the problem.

“I believe that it is something that we are going to solve in the first 60 days of our government. Whatever is going to be required of us, we will take them out.

“There is a lot of politics being played around there. But no, it cannot be the way we’ll continue to live. We cannot continue to give excuses,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu added that his administration would develop the Badagry Port as an alternative entry point to reduce movement on Apapa roads.

It should be recalled that the governor-elect in November 2018 said he would consult with expert as a way to end the heavy traffic on major roads within six months.
