A 39-year-old woman, Iwuagwu Onyinyechi, who allegedly played on the intelligence of a church, swindled it to the tune of #100 million and went into hiding, has been fished out by men of the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspect worked on the theory that as a church with a formidable charity home, sold a dummy that appeared would increase the capital base of the "home", known AS MIA Enterprises, which turned out as a scam.
She was said to have approached the church seeking its assistance through the "Home", to finance two jobs with an understanding that the proceeds would be shared between her and the "Home".
To lure the church, Onyinyechi first presented an LPO of #33, 118, 000, purportedly issued to her by Location 3 Properties, a bait the Home swallowed hook, line and tinker and made an online transfer of the amount to her.
While the church was awaiting a refund of the capital and the supposed proceeds from the business transaction, smart Onyinyechi came up with another LPO of #77 million, purportedly and fictitiously got from Ancillia Catholic Hospital, Iju and Holifull School, Ikorodu, both in Lagos.
Amebofeedsblog gathered that the suspect armed herself with well-perfected documents that left the church with no choice than to believe it was a genuine deal.
After a long vain wait, coupled with the sudden disappearance of the suspect, the church intimated its Solicitor, Godswill Ojakovo Esq., who petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, alleging that his client was defrauded by the suspect through an act of forgery.
According to Ojakovo, "as soon as she got the last payment in September 2018, the suspect disappeared into thin air. This prompted the church to make discreet enquiries about the LPOs submitted and discovered them to be fictitious".
Confirming the sad development to Crimepuzzle, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a press statement said, "Upon the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, directed the CP's Monitoring Team to go after the suspect and bring her to book", adding that the team technically tracked the suspect and got her arrested on January 21, 2019.
Oyeyemi further stated that, "On interrogation, the suspect confessed to commission of the crime even as she admitted that the two LPOs she presented to the church were forged, more so that the companies where she claimed to have gotten the LPOs were only imaginary.
"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Monitoring Team to arraign the suspect in court as soon as the investigation is concluded", the PPRO said.
