The motive for the award is not clear.
A group of students allegedly acting under the guise of members of National Association Of Nigerian Student (NANS) have deemed it fit to present an Award of Excellence to Abdulganiyu Ayinde aka Koko Zaria, whom they described as a “freedom fighter”.
Koko Zaria, a member of the much maligned National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos State, is reportedly a second in command to MC Oluomo.
It is not clear what motivated the presentation of the “award” by alleged members of a body believed to have been created to act on behalf of students across the country.
NANS has, however, said in a statement that “these individuals are not members” of the association.
It said its president, Danielson Bamidele Akpan, had placed a total ban on awards upon assumption of office in September 2018.
“That they chant ‘of the greatest Nigerian students’ does not mean they are NANS officials,” it said.
Students across state and federal universities remain at home over a disagreement between ASUU and the FG.
