Recall: Dino knows fate July 3

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on July 3 announce the date and venue for the verification of signature of electorate who signed for the recall of the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye.
People from the district had last Wednesday submitted seven bags of petitions from seven local government areas from the senatorial district for Dino Melaye’s recall.
But INEC in a statement after its weekly management Thursday, said it has considered the petition and would treat it in accordance with its guideline.
The commission in a statement by Mallam Mohammed Haruna, INEC national commissioner said INEC would now embark on the processes as stated in the constitution to recall a lawmaker.
“In according with the INEC guidelines for the recall of members of the National Assembly, the commission has finally acknowledged the receipt of the petition to the petitioners representatives and has conveyed a letter notifying Senator Dino Melaye of our receipt of the petition,” the statement said.
The statement statement stated that the next step would be to verify that the petitioners were registered voters in Kogi West senatorial district, adding that INEC would “on 3rd July 2017, issue public notice stating dates, time, location and other details for the verification of the exercise.”
