It was exactly a day after the swearing in of the local government and LCDA advisory council members, the governor of Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun invited all the House of Assembly members for the yearly Iftar (traditional Muslim meal to break fast) at the government house.
The event started calmly as the assembly members took their turn to give short speeches and prayers for the success of Ogun State. Those in attendance apart from the assembly members were Alhaji Okewole who is the chairman SUBEB, the governor's elder brother Alhaji Agba, selected party leaders and few others.
Problems started brewing when the governor started addressing the gathering. The governor thanked the assembly members for joining him at the Iftar and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant them the strength to complete the fasting.
Suddenly the governor started taking issues personal with few of the assembly members. He directed his first shot at Hon Alausa Olawale of Ijebuode state constituency. The governor told him to think of the month of Ramadan and stop attacking his commissioner for finance publicly. It will be recalled that the house of assembly had asked the commissioner for finance for the detailed document of how the Paris Club refund was spent among other things.
Hon Alausa immediately tried to call the governor's attention to the fact that they were simply performing their oversight function. At this point the governor got very angry and personal. He snapped at Hon Alausa telling him that's not how to do oversight function. The governor asked how he could perform oversight function when the election that brought him in was rigged.
At this point, Hon Alausa gave it back to the governor in a double way. He told the governor to his face that he was not rigged in. He asked the governor who he was to have insulted him in such manner. He told the governor Ijebuode isn't Abeokuta and that he can only talk about his constituency.
The timely intervention of few honourable members saved the day. The intervention of Honourable Adebiyi Adeleye of Remo North state constituency got the governor angry. The governor immediately asked Hon Biyi to sit down and keep quiet. The governor also levelled the same allegation against Hon Biyi telling him they all knew how they made him win in his constituency. The governor accused him of betraying him and not supporting him anymore.
Hon Adebiyi Adeleye instantly reacted by telling the governor that the governor was not responsible for his victory in any way. He also asked the governor why he is that bothered about him not supporting him. He asked the governor if he was going for a 3rd term in office. This made the governor go berserk. Again it took the intervention of the party elders and other assembly members to calm both parties down.
Few minutes after the alterations, the governor excused himself out of the Iftar and everybody left the banquet hall.
