
Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the police, have successfully repelled an attack by suspected armed bandits on a joint patrol team in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, when the security team on routine patrol was ambushed by the bandits.
Security sources said the bandits opened fire upon sighting the troops, triggering a brief gun battle.
The troops responded swiftly and decisively, forcing the attackers to retreat.The bandits reportedly fled through a nearby river, taking advantage of the difficult terrain in the area.No casualty was recorded among the security personnel during the encounter.
Following the clash, the troops have intensified patrols and launched combing operations in surrounding bushes to track down the fleeing suspects.
The operation forms part of ongoing military efforts to curb banditry and restore peace in the region.
