GUSAU, ZAMFARA – In a bold move to bridge the gap between academic research and practical governance, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, is set to depart for the United Kingdom today. The Governor will lead a high-level delegation to participate in a two-day intensive workshop on strategic governance and resilience at the prestigious Coventry University.

The summit, organized by the Centre for Resilient Business and Society, is scheduled for March 30 and 31. This international engagement marks a pivotal moment for the Lawal administration as it seeks global expertise to bolster its domestic "Six-Point Rescue Agenda."

A Research-Driven Approach to Reform

The workshop is supported by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) Institutional Support framework. According to an official statement released on Sunday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the collaboration aims to foster research-driven solutions for the complex challenges facing Zamfara’s institutions.

"The workshop brings together global scholars, policymakers, and governance experts," the statement read. "It is a reflection of a shared commitment to advancing resilience and societal development through data-driven leadership."

Inside the Strategic Agenda

The two-day itinerary is packed with high-level sessions designed to address the specific hurdles of governing in a developing economy. Key thematic areas include:

 * Resilient Leadership: Strategies for navigating dynamic, resource-limited environments.

 * Fiscal Stability: Managing financial resilience and public sector innovation.

 * Ethical Governance: The role of data and change management in modernizing state institutions.

Governor Lawal is not traveling alone. In a move that signals a commitment to systemic rather than individual growth, he is accompanied by a robust team of state officials. The delegation includes the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), key commissioners, special advisers, and the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA).

Bridging the Gap: Theory Meets Practice

A highlight of the trip will be an interactive session between the Zamfara delegation and Postgraduate Research (PGR) students. The session, titled "The Role of Research in Policymaking: Driving Strategic and Resilient Governance – Lessons from the Six-Point Rescue Agenda," aims to turn academic theory into measurable impact.

The Governor is expected to share practical insights from his administration's efforts to stabilize Zamfara, focusing on the core pillars of:

 * Security and Peacebuilding

 * Agricultural Revitalization

 * Healthcare Reform

 * Educational Advancement

 * Infrastructure Development

 * Economic Empowerment

> "This engagement provides a platform for meaningful dialogue on how research can move beyond the classroom to shape policy decisions that deliver real-world results for our people," Idris added.

As Zamfara continues to navigate security and economic challenges, this international collaboration at Coventry University signals a shift toward a more scientific, data-centric approach to governance—one that the administration hopes will provide the "rescue" the state has long awaited.
