ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE – In a monumental effort to foster economic self-reliance and preserve cultural heritage, the Gbagede Ewaede Foundation has unveiled a landmark empowerment program designed to transform the lives of 1,000 women and youths across Ogun Central Senatorial District namely Abeokuta South, North, Odeda, Obafemi-Owode, Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas.
The initiative, aptly themed “Her Money is her strength, she’s responsible,” represents a massive ₦1 Billion investment into the local economy. Under the visionary leadership of Omoba Adejoke, the foundation has partnered with Sure Banker to provide a life-changing opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Adire art and craft sector.
Each beneficiaries were given a sum of N5,000 Naira after making their registration for the empowerment.
A Catalyst for Economic Independence
The program is strategically designed to bridge the financial gap for individuals under the age of 40. By providing a ₦1,000,000 interest-free startup loan to each of the 1,000 beneficiaries, the foundation aims to empower a new generation of business owners who will not only sustain their families but also revitalize the iconic Adire industry—a cornerstone of Abeokuta’s cultural identity.
“The core philosophy of this initiative is to move beyond mere assistance and move toward true economic autonomy,” said a representative of the Gbagede Ewaede Foundation. “When we say, ‘Her money is her strength, she’s responsible,’ we are acknowledging the power of financial independence to stabilize homes and build a stronger, more resilient society.”
The initiative is also put up together to protect and promote the originality of Adire Fabrics by empowering more people to invest into the production across Ogun state.
Investing in Heritage and Growth
The focus on Adire is no coincidence. By anchoring the empowerment program in the local craft sector, the foundation is ensuring that the funds serve a dual purpose: providing individual livelihoods and scaling the production and marketing of Abeokuta’s world-renowned textile heritage.
The collaboration with Sure Banker underscores the foundation's commitment to structured and sustainable financial practices. The interest-free nature of the loan is specifically designed to remove the burden of debt, allowing young entrepreneurs to focus entirely on growth, production, and market expansion.
The Path Forward
The foundation is currently in the information-gathering phase, as officials work to capture the details of all prospective beneficiaries within the target demographics of Abeokuta South and to extend to other 5 local government in Ogun central namely Abeokuta North, Odeda, Obafemi-Owode, Ifo and Ewekoro respectively.
Following this registration process, the highly anticipated disbursement of funds is scheduled to take place in the next quarter of the year. This timeline ensures that beneficiaries have adequate time to undergo necessary orientation and preparation to maximize the impact of their startup capital.
As Abeokuta prepares for this influx of investment, the Gbagede Ewaede Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to reduce unemployment and cultivate a culture of self-sufficiency.
