The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, March 13, 2026, restituted a total of $225,895 and ₦62,790,000 to victims of fraud from the United States and South Africa.
The handover ceremony, held at the EFCC headquarters, was presided over by the Commission's Secretary, Mohammed Hammajoda.
It was attended by representatives of the victims' countries, including FBI Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché Mike Fukuda and South Africa's Acting High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lindi Mminele.
Hammajoda described corruption as a borderless "cancer" that demands global cooperation to eradicate.
He reaffirmed the EFCC's commitment to returning recovered proceeds of crime to rightful owners individuals, companies, governments, or international victims and called for reciprocal promptness from international partners in asset recovery and mutual legal assistance requests.
The funds were distributed as follows:On behalf of U.S. victims: FBI's Fukuda received $7,440 for Drago Boskovic; $15,000 for Anh Ngoc Nguyen and three others; and $175,895 plus the full ₦62,790,000 for Holly Ngo.
On behalf of South African victim Ennis-Flint Africa Limited: Acting High Commissioner Mminele and the company's lawyer, Elisha Sunday, received $50,000.
Mminele thanked the EFCC for its effective work, noting that the South African company had directly experienced the results of the Commission's efforts.
She highlighted the value of the longstanding partnership and expressed hope for continued collaboration.
Sunday, the South African company's lawyer, praised the EFCC as "the best thing that ever happened to this country," citing staff dedication that helps restore confidence in doing business with Nigerians and strengthens the nation's global financial reputation.
Fukuda commended the EFCC's victim-focused approach, calling it inspiring and reaffirming the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice's commitment to ongoing partnership with what he described as a "world-class agency."
