A broad coalition of youth groups from across Ogun Central District has launched a renewed campaign advocating peace, unity, and a decisive end to cult-related activities and other social vices affecting communities in the state.
The rally, which drew participants from several towns and local associations within , underscored growing concerns among residents over safety, moral values, and the future of young people. Organisers said the initiative reflects a shared determination among youths to rebuild trust within communities and create safer environments for development.
Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Akeem, a speaker at the event called for collective action to tackle cultism, drug abuse, and other behaviours viewed as threats to community stability. They stressed that young people must take responsibility for shaping a peaceful society while also demanding opportunities in education, skills training, and employment.
Community representatives from said recent incidents in parts of the district have heightened tension, prompting urgent calls for stronger collaboration between residents, security agencies, and the state government. They urged youths to channel their energy into productive ventures rather than activities capable of disrupting public peace.
The gathering also reflected on recent security interventions and community disputes, including an homosexuality incident around the Ajebo area involving the Chief executive of Marthyrock Global Concept Limited, Nurudeen Ayo M. and Omobolaji Okeleye popularly known as BJ Community leaders noted that the situation, which resulted in a fatal mob action, where Okeleye was killed while Nurudeen Ayo M fled the scene on the 2nd of March 2024, highlighted the urgent need for lawful conflict resolution and stronger community engagement to prevent violence.
While addressing participants, youth leaders emphasised that lasting solutions must be rooted in dialogue, awareness campaigns, and consistent engagement with young people. They also called on parents, religious institutions, and civil society groups to take active roles in mentoring and guiding the younger generation.
The Ogun State Government, led by Governor, received commendation from several speakers for efforts to strengthen community policing and expand youth empowerment programmes. Attendees expressed optimism that sustained partnerships between authorities and grassroots organisations would help reduce crime and foster long-term stability across the state.
Traditional rulers and community elders urged tolerance, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law. They maintained that while communities must firmly reject crime and violence, solutions should promote fairness, peace, and unity among residents.
As the campaign continues across the six local governments in Ogun Central district, organisers plan to host town hall meetings, school outreach programmes, and skills-development workshops aimed at steering young people away from harmful activities. Participants expressed hope that with cooperation and sustained advocacy, communities in can build a more secure and harmonious future for all.
