Sagamu Local Government on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, unveiled a proposed ₦14.16 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, tagged “Budget of Hope,” with a strong focus on infrastructure development, education, economic empowerment, security and social welfare.
Presenting the appropriation bill before the Sagamu Local Government Legislative Council, the Executive Chairman, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, described the budget as a bold statement of optimism and commitment to improving the living standards of residents across the local government.
Speaking at the legislative chamber, Odulate expressed gratitude to Almighty God for peace and stability in Sagamu, Ogun State and Nigeria at large, noting that the 2026 budget presentation marked his administration’s second fiscal proposal since assuming office.
“This Budget of Hope reflects our unwavering resolve to deepen development at the grassroots, strengthen our communities and restore confidence in governance,” the chairman said.
Key Priority Areas
According to Odulate, the 2026 budget prioritizes:
- Infrastructure Development: Construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads to boost transportation and economic activities.
- Education: Rehabilitation of public schools and provision of essential learning materials.
- Economic Empowerment: Support for entrepreneurship, ICT training programmes and youth empowerment initiatives.
- Security and Social Welfare: Enhanced security measures and targeted support for vulnerable groups, including women, children and the elderly.
Review of 2025 Budget Performance
The chairman also reviewed the 2025 budget performance as of October 2025, stating that the projected revenue for the year stood at ₦10.87 billion, which was equally appropriated for expenditure. He assured legislators that the administration remained committed to prudent financial management and accountability.
2026 Revenue Projections
For the 2026 fiscal year, the total budget size is estimated at ₦14,161,925,000. The projected revenue sources include:
- Federal Statutory Allocation: ₦12.20 billion
- Value Added Tax (VAT): ₦550 million
- Excess Crude Oil: ₦50 million
- State Government Grants: ₦1 billion
- Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): ₦314.06 million
- Capital Receipts: ₦50 million
Odulate emphasized that the administration proposed a balanced budget, with total projected revenue matching total expenditure.
Call for Legislative Support
Formally submitting the appropriation bill, the chairman appealed to members of the Legislative Council for their cooperation and timely passage of the budget to ensure smooth implementation.
“With divine guidance, collective determination and selfless service, this budget will translate into tangible benefits for the people of Sagamu,” he said.
He concluded with prayers for a successful financial year and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to grassroots development.
The presentation ended on a patriotic note, as the chairman declared:
“Long live Sagamu Local Government. Long live Ogun State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Igbega Ijọba Ibile Sagamu, ajọṣe gbogbo wa ni o.”
The 2026 “Budget of Hope,” if passed, is expected to further strengthen Sagamu’s socio-economic growth and reinforce confidence in local governance.
