Sagamu Local Government, in collaboration with the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, has announced the commencement of a comprehensive immunization campaign aimed at protecting children and adolescents against preventable diseases, including measles, rubella and Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
The campaign, scheduled to run from January 27 to February 5, 2026, will be implemented across Sagamu Local Government Area, covering all Primary Health Care centres, schools, markets, mosques and churches, to ensure maximum reach and accessibility for residents.
According to the organizers, the initiative targets routine immunization for children aged 0 to 23 months, Measles–Rubella vaccination for children between 9 months and 14 years, and HPV vaccination for girls aged 9 years and above. The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Government to strengthen disease prevention, reduce childhood morbidity and mortality, and promote long-term public health.
Health officials explained that measles and rubella remain highly contagious diseases that can lead to severe complications in children if not prevented through vaccination. They added that the inclusion of the HPV vaccine is a critical step in protecting young girls from future risks of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The Sagamu Local Government authorities emphasized that the campaign is free of charge and urged parents, guardians and community leaders to support the exercise by presenting eligible children and adolescents for vaccination within the campaign period. Religious and traditional institutions have also been encouraged to mobilize their members to ensure widespread participation.
Speaking on the importance of the campaign, health officials noted that bringing vaccination services closer to the people—through schools, markets and places of worship—will help eliminate barriers to access and improve overall immunization coverage in the area.
Residents have been assured that trained health workers will be on ground at all designated venues, adhering strictly to safety and professional standards throughout the exercise.
The Sagamu Local Government and the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the health of children and adolescents, calling on the public to take advantage of the campaign in the collective fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.
