Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has lamented that Nigeria is the most dangerous country for doctors to live and practise their profession.
The co-convener of BringBackOurGirls Movement made this known in a statement posted on her official X handle on Thursday.
She was reacting to the abduction of a medical doctor and his brother in Edo State early in January this year.
The doctor’s brother was later killed, and the doctor was released after N50m ransom was reportedly paid.
Reacting, Yesufu wrote, “The silence of the NMA is a deafening betrayal! If a study were to be done, it would not be surprising to hear that Nigeria is the most dangerous place for doctors to live.
“There has been a pattern over the years of doctors being targeted by terrorists and kidnappers. We have as a nation not been bothered about the plight of those we need at our most vulnerable.”
