The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has listed Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea to officiate the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final match between Nigeria and Morocco.
The continental football body released a list of match officials to handle the game on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles will take on the Atlas Lions of Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday at 9 pm Nigerian time.
Nii Laryea will take charge of the game, with South Africa’s Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane as assistant referees.
Arsénio Maringule of Mozambique will be the third assistant referee, while Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda will be on the sideline as the fourth official.
In the video assistant referee booth, there will be Tom Abongile of South Africa, Haythem Guirat of Tunisia, and Stephen Yiembe of Kenya.
Lydia Abebe will serve as the referee assessor for the match.
Nigeria and South Africa were in the same group for the recently concluded 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The rivalry between the two countries intensified after Nigeria secured FIFA sanctions against South Africa for fielding an ineligible player in one of the matches. Gayton McKenzie, South Africa’s minister of sports, publicly said he doesn’t want Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup.
Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 in the AFCON quarter-final last weekend. The team had thrashed Mozambique in the second round. The Eagles also finished the group with an impeccable nine points from three games.
Eric Chelle’s side is the highest-scoring team in the competition with 14 goals. The team have also broken Nigeria’s record for goals scored in a single AFCON.
