The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has rolled out a comprehensive Christmas and New Year Special Operation Schedule aimed at ensuring effective traffic management and the free flow of traffic on a 24-hour basis across 18 major traffic corridors in the state.
The special operation, which is part of the agency’s annual yuletide safety strategy, will commence on Monday, December 22, 2025, and run through Monday, January 5, 2026. This was disclosed in a statement issued from the office of the most senior TRACE officer and Commander in charge of the day-to-day administration and duty schedules of the agency, Cmdr. Elias Omonayajo Adedayo.
According to the statement, the Special Patrol Operation Order is designed to proactively address the anticipated surge in human and vehicular movements associated with the Christmas and New Year celebrations, with a view to guaranteeing the safety of lives and property on Ogun roads.
The operation will cover major highways and corridors across the state, including the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway; Interchange–Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Benin/Ore Expressway; Sango/Ota–Atan–Owode–Idiroko Highway; Atan–Lusada–Agbara–Badagry Highway; Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Interchange Expressway; Abeokuta–Ewekoro–Ifo–Sango/Ota Expressway; and Rounder–Abeokuta–Olorunda–Ayetoro–Imeko–Ilara Border route, among others.
TRACE noted that the exercise would involve close monitoring of motorists and other road users, including drivers of both high and low capacity vehicles, to ensure compliance with traffic rules and regulations during the festive period.
The agency also emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that the operation would be carried out in synergy with other safety and security agencies in the state. In addition, road users and residents are encouraged to participate through the TRACE Traffic Whistle Blower Initiative, TRACE Emergency Traffic Service, and the Community-Based Traffic Management Scheme, popularly known as TRACE MAYORS.
The statement stressed that road safety remains a collective and shared responsibility, urging the public to cooperate with traffic officials to achieve a hitch-free yuletide season.
Cmdr. Adedayo further directed all Field Commanders to ensure that TRACE operatives remain presentable, civil, professional, fair and firm in the discharge of their duties, adding that professionalism must be upheld at all times in the interest of public safety, particularly that of motorists.
While felicitating with Christians and all road users on the festive season, the TRACE leadership cautioned motorists against drinking and driving, excessive speeding and unnecessary night travel. Road users were also advised to plan their journeys properly and adhere strictly to basic traffic rules and regulations.
The agency warned that any vehicle impounded for traffic infractions during the period of the special operation would not be released until the conclusion of the exercise on Monday, January 5, 2026.
