In a renewed drive to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more orderly environment across Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, has announced the commencement of a comprehensive inspection of all markets within the council area.

The market inspection exercise follows a stern directive from the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, who has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for indiscriminate dumping of refuse in streets, markets, and other public places. The Governor warned that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with environmental laws of the state.

In line with this directive, the Executive Chairman will begin the inspection tour at Mowe Market on Thursday, 11th December, coinciding with the market’s regular environmental sanitation exercise. During the visit, the Chairman will also hold a strategic meeting with market leaders and stakeholders to discuss ways of improving hygiene, waste management, and general market conditions.

According to the local government authorities, the inspection is aimed at strengthening environmental sanitation practices, enhancing the overall condition of markets, and preparing the local government area for a clean and welcoming environment as the festive season approaches.

The council emphasized that the cooperation of traders, market associations, and residents is critical to the success of the exercise, noting that collective responsibility is required to sustain a clean and healthy environment for all.

The Obafemi Owode Local Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Ogun State Government’s environmental sustainability agenda and urged all market users to adhere strictly to sanitation regulations, dispose of waste properly, and maintain cleanliness within their surroundings.

Residents and traders are therefore encouraged to cooperate fully with the inspection team to ensure a smooth and successful exercise, as the local government works toward creating a safer, cleaner, and more attractive environment for economic and social activities.
