In a bold step toward global collaboration and sustainable development, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State has entered into a historic bilateral agreement with the City of Dover, Delaware, United States—an alliance set to transform agriculture, empower youth, and stimulate infrastructure growth across the region.
The landmark partnership was formally sealed on Monday, November 24, 2025, at an Official Award Presentation and Cultural Exchange Ceremony held at the Dover Legislative Chambers. The event marked a significant milestone in Nigeria–United States subnational cooperation, bringing together policymakers, traditional leaders, and development stakeholders from both countries.
Leading the Nigerian delegation was the Executive Chairman of Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Ambassador Adesina ’Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, whose address at the Dover Legislative Council plenary session underscored a shared vision of agricultural innovation, food security, and inclusive economic growth. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Robin R. Christiansen, members of the Dover Legislative Council, and distinguished guests from both nations.
A Partnership Rooted in Agriculture and Opportunity
At the heart of the agreement is agricultural development—designed not merely as food production, but as a catalyst for economic transformation. The cooperation will support large-scale farming, modern research, and value-chain development, positioning Obafemi-Owode as a strategic agro-hub within Ogun State.

Obafemi-Owode’s strategic location as a border local government to Lagos State places it at a commercial advantage. With increased agricultural output, farm produce from the area is expected to flow into Lagos markets, helping to stabilize food supply and reduce prices for consumers while increasing income for local farmers.
The expansion of farmlands and agro-processing activities will also enhance land value and attract private investment, further stimulating economic growth across Ogun State.
