…Says Accusations of Christian Genocide in Nigeria Are Misplaced
The Coalition of Registered Political Party Members (CORPAM) has appealed to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to disregard allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria, describing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the most religiously tolerant leader the country has ever produced.
In a passionate open letter signed by its National Coordinator and Convener, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, CORPAM lauded President Tinubu for fostering an atmosphere of peace, unity, and interfaith harmony despite Nigeria’s complex religious landscape.
Comrade Oginni, in the letter addressed to the White House and made available to journalists in Abuja, stated that President Tinubu’s leadership stands as a model of religious tolerance and inclusivity, worthy of international recognition rather than condemnation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, though a practicing Muslim, has demonstrated unprecedented religious tolerance by allowing his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to freely practice Christianity to the extent of serving as a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),” the letter read in part.
“Even his children practice Christianity without restriction, reflecting his genuine commitment to religious freedom and peaceful coexistence,” Oginni added.
‘Tinubu’s Example Inspires Other Muslim Leaders’
CORPAM further cited examples of other Muslim political figures who have followed President Tinubu’s example in promoting interfaith respect within their families and communities.
According to the group, the Seriki Adinni of Yewaland in Ogun State, Hon. Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), whose wife is a Deaconess, is one of many public figures now embracing Tinubu’s philosophy of religious harmony.
“President Tinubu’s leadership style has inspired other Muslim leaders to promote mutual respect between faiths. This is a significant stride in uniting Nigeria’s diverse population,” Oginni stated.
‘Killings Not Religious, But Terrorist Attacks’
While condemning the continued killings of Christians and Muslims alike by terrorists in parts of the country, CORPAM urged the international community to avoid misrepresenting Nigeria’s security challenges as religious persecution.
“The killings of Nigerian Christians are condemnable, but it is misleading to attribute these heinous acts to President Tinubu’s government,” the statement noted.
“These are terrorist attacks driven by extremism, not religion. Both Christians and Muslims have fallen victim to the same violent elements destabilizing our nation.”
‘Trump Should Support Nigeria’s Anti-Terror Efforts’
Comrade Oginni appealed to President Donald Trump and the U.S. government to collaborate with Nigeria in the ongoing war against terrorism rather than accepting “half-truths” and misinformation propagated by detractors.
He emphasized that religion is neither the root nor the remote cause of Nigeria’s insecurity, but rather a weapon exploited by criminal and extremist elements.
“The best the United States can do is to support President Tinubu in his fight against terrorism and insecurity,” CORPAM asserted.
“A thorough and objective investigation into Nigeria’s challenges will reveal that President Tinubu’s administration is committed to national unity, not division.”
‘Tinubu Deserves Accolades, Not Persecution’
CORPAM concluded by calling on the international community to honour President Tinubu with an award for religious tolerance, describing him as a global example of peaceful coexistence in a multi-faith democracy.
“Rather than persecution, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves global accolades for his inclusive leadership and commitment to religious freedom,” Oginni declared.
“Nigeria under Tinubu is building bridges of faith, not walls of division.”
