Sagamu — After years of appeals and growing concerns from commuters and business owners, hope has finally arrived for residents of Sagamu as the Ogun State Government has approved the reconstruction of the long-neglected Paddy Arikawe Road.
The development, described as a major milestone for the community, was disclosed by Otunba Olaide Okunola, popularly known as Citizens, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism. He stated that the long-awaited intervention underscores Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to meaningful and people-centered development.
According to Okunola, the reconstruction of the Paddy Arikawe stretch signifies more than the rehabilitation of a road; it represents improved mobility, restored dignity, safer access for residents, enhanced business activity, and an expansion of economic opportunities in Sagamu.
“For years, the people of Sagamu have wished for one thing — that the Paddy Arikawe stretch would move from a challenged route to a functional link that supports daily life, business, and community growth. That desire has now received government attention under His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON,” he said.
He noted that the Governor’s approval of the project, alongside the reconstruction of the Itarin–Sabo Road in Ijebu-Ode and the rollout of new housing estates, reflects a strategic approach rather than random development choices.
“His decisions are deliberate. They align with urban planning, growing population demands, mobility improvements, safety considerations, and long-term economic potential. Development, under Governor Abiodun, is measured by impact, not volume,” Okunola added.
The announcement has been greeted with excitement among residents, who see the project as a turning point for a community that has endured years of hardship due to the deteriorating state of the road. Market women, motorists, business owners, and homeowners have often lamented the difficulty of navigating the route, especially during the rainy season.
Stakeholders say that once completed, the road will ease transportation, reduce travel time, improve trade flow, enhance property value, and support the broader economic revival of Sagamu and its environs.
Okunola emphasized that Sagamu appreciates a Governor “who sees beyond today and works for tomorrow — steadily, thoughtfully, and with results that matter.”
As reconstruction efforts commence, the community looks forward to a future where essential infrastructure reinforces growth, encourages investment, and improves everyday living for thousands of residents.
