The mystery surrounding the disappearance of an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), SRC O.O. Lasisi of RS2.2 Ogun Sector Command, has taken a tragic turn as Osun State Police Command confirms the arrest of a suspected ritualist linked to the case.
Sector Commander of RS11.1 Osun Sector Command, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega (fsi), alongside the Sector Intelligence Officer, visited the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, on Tuesday following widespread reports of the missing officer. During the briefing, CP Gotan revealed that his operatives had apprehended a suspected herbalist believed to be connected to the disturbing incident.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, investigations uncovered that another individual, identified as Mr. Victor—a close friend of SRC Lasisi—had been declared missing by his wife on November 2 at the Osun State Police Headquarters. Phone tracking analysis showed that Mr. Victor had repeatedly contacted the suspected herbalist in Iwoye Ijesa prior to his disappearance.
The herbalist was eventually arrested in Iloko Ijesa, where he confessed that both Lasisi and Mr. Victor had visited him for spiritual consultation. In a shocking revelation, he alleged that Mr. Victor and his unnamed associates murdered the FRSC officer, dismembered his body, and dumped the remains—minus the head—in a river. The mutilated body, recovered in a sack, was deposited at the Osun State Teaching Hospital mortuary on November 17.
The suspect further claimed that the officer's young daughter had been staying with him for several days but was later taken away by Mr. Victor and his companions. Fears that the child may also have been killed are growing, though the herbalist insisted he was not involved and denied knowledge of where her remains might be located.
Police authorities say efforts are underway to track down Mr. Victor and other accomplices believed to be on the run. The family of the deceased has been urged to provide logistical support to aid the ongoing operation.
Autopsy and DNA analysis will be conducted once the remaining suspects are apprehended, particularly due to the condition of the recovered body.
Meanwhile, the husband of the deceased has been notified, and officers from RS2.2 Ogun Sector Command, along with relatives of the late SRC Lasisi, are expected in Osogbo today to further assist investigations.
The Osun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring all perpetrators involved in the heinous crime are brought to justice.
