The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of one person in a lone crash on the Cham–Numan Road in the Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Samson Kubara, confirmed the accident in Gombe on Monday.
Kubara said that one person sustained injuries while four others escaped unhurt in the crash involving a Toyota Camry on Sunday.
He said the corpse had been deposited at the Primary Health Care Centre, Cham.
The commander attributed the crash to loss of control caused by speeding, and cautioned motorists to shun speeding and overloading to ensure their safety and that of their passengers.
“The road is now very busy, but drivers must be careful not to hurry so as to return quickly just to earn more money; remember, only the living can spend money.
“We advise our drivers to install a speed limiter on their vehicles, drive at an approved speed and also use common-sense driving speed.
“The Cham–Numan Road has a lot of hilly roads, which means that drivers should drive cautiously in such areas.
“Don’t think you know the road and the terrain, and start driving in a manner that threatens your life and those of other road users,” he said.
The commander stressed that drivers must prioritise their safety, adhere to traffic rules, and ensure that their vehicles are properly checked and serviced before embarking on a journey.
