The Kebbi State Government has dismissed Senator Garba Maidoki’s recent statements on insecurity, development projects, bandit attacks and displaced communities in the state, describing it as misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Abdullahi Idris, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, kebbi government said Maidoki’s remarks misrepresented the security situation, particularly after the abduction of students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Sakaba Local Government Area.
The government said contrary to Maidoki’s claim that 200 communities were displaced by banditry, official records show that about 50 affected communities along the Wasagu–Sakaba axis were returned home through coordinated security operations. Idris also said that military deployments and field operations were planned in coordination with Defence Headquarters, with the state government providing logistics support.
On infrastructure, the statement noted that reconstruction of the long-abandoned federal Koko–Zuru road is ongoing and that security conferences involving traditional rulers, military officials, and academics have been held to address regional challenges.
The government further alleged that Maidoki had not participated in consultations with representatives of affected communities and suggested his criticisms were politically motivated. “Desperate collaborations by politicians driven by personal interest will not derail the government’s commitment to the people,” the statement said.
Senator Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South, has previously criticised the government’s handling of security and infrastructure, leading to ongoing political tensions with the APC-led administration.
