The Kebbi State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of its citizens, following the swift and successful rescue of Augustine Madubiya. Madubiya, a final-year student at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, was abducted by unknown assailants on Tuesday but was safely recovered within 48 hours.
Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, conveyed the government’s satisfaction in a statement released on Friday in Birnin Kebbi. He emphasized that the rapid rescue operation demonstrated Governor Nasir Idris’s resolute stance against all forms of criminal activity within the state.
The Commissioner attributed the successful outcome to the coordinated efforts of various security agencies and local vigilante groups. He specifically highlighted that these efforts were carried out under the direct instructions of Governor Nasir Idris, underscoring the governor’s personal involvement and prioritization of security matters.
Ahmed further noted that ensuring the safety and security of the populace remains a paramount objective for the current administration, recognizing its fundamental importance for achieving sustainable development across all sectors. He pointed to the government’s ongoing efforts since 2023 in addressing security challenges, particularly in the southern region of Kebbi, which had previously been plagued by violent attacks.
While acknowledging the persistent threat posed by the Lakurawa bandits, the Commissioner assured the public that the government is actively implementing sustained security strategies to tackle this issue. He called upon communities to collaborate closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, emphasizing the importance of a strong partnership between citizens and law enforcement in maintaining peace throughout Kebbi State.
