A candidate of the All Progressives Congress from the Obafemi-Owode state constituency for the Ogun state House of Assembly seat, Sulaeman Ajibola has alleged that the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, the Secretary to the State Government , Tokunbo Talabi ; Chief of Staff, Shuaib Salis and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on political matters ,Tunji Egbetokun forced him to sign a withdrawal form at gun point .
Ajibola who betrayed his emotion while narrating his ordeal in the hands of the governor and his aides ,said he was threatened with security operatives at the presidential lodge in a bid to force him to sign a withdrawal form.
He said Abiodun and three of his aides were involved in the process that forced him to sign an Oath of withdrawal form at gun point .
Ajibola said he participated at the party primary held on May 26, 2022, emerging winner and was declared the candidate of the party to represent the constituency .
The embattled candidate said he was summoned on Friday by the SSG to the presidential lodge where the governor lives .
He claimed that the governor and his aides during a marathon meeting he had with them threatened him of arrest if he did not step down as the party candidate despite his emergence at the primaries.
The governor, during the meeting told him there were discrepancies in his documents he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2023 election.
He narrated “around, 9:am on Friday morning, i got a call from the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, i was told the governor wants to see me at the presidential lodge, i was asked where i was, and i said i was at Owode, and he said i should come immediately, then i went, but before going, i called some leaders in APC, Chief Kola Sorinola, Engineer Akeem Adeshina, Chairman of the local government, and my friends, four of them followed me.
“When we got there, only two of us were given permission to enter, Hon. Wasiu Shofela and I, when we entered the building, he was restrained from seeing the governor, Dapo Abiodun, and I sat for about one hour at the reception before seeing the governor.
“When I got to the governor’s office , he asked for my name, and told me the report he received is not good enough, asking about the school I attended .
“I showed him the original documents, he said they contradict themselves. As we were dragging the issue the SSG, Chief of staff and Hon. Egbetokun entered.
“I told them I have attached an affidavit with the documents, that shows I bear both names, and I said the documents had been with my lawyer about a month ago.
“We discussed the matter for three hours, then, I was asked to wait at the reception, and i don’t know the meeting they were doing, then, i was asked to withdraw from the race , if not, I would be arrested there, the SSG and Chief of Staff told me this.
“The governor also said if i couldn’t find solution to it, i should withdraw or else I would be sent to jail, and if the opposition party takes me up in court, he won’t intervene again, that he loves me that’s why he’s telling me this, DSS would arrest me.
“DSS arrived not quite long, then, I was given the APC form, which is labelled “Oath of withdrawal”, right honourable (Egbetokun) dragged me and told me I would be killed because of the post, he said I should leave it for another post, but, that didn’t change my mind because i kept telling them that, my lawyer asked me not to sign it, but I later signed it.
“I was forced to step down, at a gun point, when they called DSS and everyone on me, so it’s a thing that saddens me, that, it is not the party that called me, instead it is the governor.
He said, “Only the name is different, because, when i was in my primary school, till my secondary school, my father registered Salimonu Mujaheedu Akanji, he used it to register me, so i used it till secondary school, i also used it for WAEC, in 1991, so when i finished in 1991, i got two f9’s in my result, and others were credit, so after that, the exams i did starting from year 2000, because i wanted to have a good result.
“I went to community high school, Ibafo, all the exams I did, be it NECO or GCE, i used Sulaimon Mujaheed Ajibola.
“I did an affidavit for the change of name, that’s about two months ago, and i published it in the newspaper and I asked my lawyer, he said there is no problem.
” Nigerians, please ,help me, these are the schools I went, I didn’t forge my certificate, my headmaster that is still alive. I have my results and certificates with me.”
