BROOKS ESTATE : SOUTHWEST PCRC COMMENDS CP ODUMOSU, CAUTIONS MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC AGAINST ACTS CAPABLE OF WIDENING THE GAP BETWEEN THE POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY.

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Southwest Geopolitical Zone, under the leadership of the National Vice Chairman, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan* has commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, *CP Hakeem Odumosu* whose office and personality was highly disrespected by some ignorant private security guards on the *1st of January, 2022* at the entrance of a private residential estate (Brooks Estate) located in the Magodo area of Lagos State. 

The Southwest PCRC leadership who described Odumosu's reaction to the disrespectful conduct of the said private security guards as calm and respectful enough, *condemned the fact that he was meaninglessly obstructed and delayed for 30 minutes* in what can best be described *a total disregard for the constitutional honor attached to his office.* The PCRC wondered if such *rude and disrespectful act devoid of discretion and esprit de corps* can be tried with a high ranking military officer of Odumosu's rank without serious disciplinary response. 

It is also a known fact that *provisions of the constitution and bye laws of any CDA stands suspended and ineffective as long as the Police or any other government law enforcement agent (s) on lawful duty is concerned,* not to talk of a whole Commissioner of Police who definitely can not afford to lower his guards for any reason and at any location and time within his jurisdiction for his own safety and the overall safety of all.

We can't be doing things the wrong way and expect the right results. As members of the public, we must *ensure not to conduct ourselves in manners that will activate the suspicions of security agents* either within or outside our immediate communities. Media propaganda, sentiments and emotions can never take the place of mutual respect, decorum and common sense.

The Southwest PCRC leadership therefore call on every good and responsible member of the public including CDAs, to *read and understand the constitutional roles of the Nigeria Police Force as far as internal security of Nigeria is concerned before making community based laws which will put them in a position where they will be obstructing security agents from carrying out their legitimate duties,* of which does not exclude patrols, surveillance and movements capable of building intelligence. CP Odumosu's recent promotion to the exalted rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police is as a result of his all round success in *crime fighting, law enforcement, rights protection and security of lives and properties* of every Lagos residence, not withstanding their religious, political, social and ethnic background.
