US First Black Secretary of State, Colin Powell Dies of Coronavirus

Former Secretary of State in the United States, Gen Colin Powell has died.

Powell died at the age of 84 according to the hospital, of complications from coronavirus.

The family said in a message posted on facebook on Monday,

"General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19.

"We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American," they said, noting he was fully vaccinated.

Powel, it would be recalled was the Secretary of State who advocated for a war with Iraq.

He would later admit that that decision was a “blot” in his career.

A distinguished soldier, he served as National Security Adviser under President Ronald Reagan.

At one point, Powel was considered to be a possible first Black American President until his popularity came down due to the aftermath of the war with Iraq.
