Rotary donates family planning items to Ogun

The Rotary International Action Group on Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (RMCH) on National Family Planning Project has donated some family planning equipment and commodities to support the drive of Ogun State Government towards efficient healthcare delivery.

The items included cuscos vaginal speculum, vulselum forcepts, uterine sound, galli pots with cover, plain scissors,  as well as trays with cover and various family planning commodities among others.

The Ogun State Rotary  Representative of RMCH on behalf of the Rotarian Action Group, Rotarian Dr. Hassan Adelakun while presenting the items in Abeokuta, said that the Reproductive Maternal and Child Health Project of Family Planning 8s poise to prevent 30% Maternal Deaths in Nigeria.

Adelakun said the gesture was a national programme being executed in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT),  noting  that the use of the donated items will effectively support Ogun in achieving a reduction in maternal and child death.

He pointed that the group had in the past supported the state in training doctors and nurses on family planning as well as  training of trainers in addition to the community dialogue on Family Planning in five local government areas of the state.

Adelakun added that the IUCDs are meant to serve  10 Primary Health Centers in rural areas, including Mamu, Opeji, Idofa, Ajegunle, Igbogila, Coker as well as Ode-Omi, Ibara-Orile, Oke-Odan, Ohunbe respectively.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, commended the Rotary International Action Group on Reproductive and Maternal and Child Health in their National Family Planning Project for being a worthy partner to the vision of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government, calling on relevant stakeholders to come on board in giving their support to the government.
